Budding young filmmakers recognised at 2nd Moving Image Awards

The second Moving Image Awards were held at the BFI Southbank, London on Friday 11th December. This annual event celebrates, recognises and rewards the UK's most talented young film-makers.

 

This year's event was hosted by the charismatic film-maker and former BBC Radio 6Music presenter Iyare Igiehon, whilst critically acclaimed Film Director Corin Hardy engaged the audience as he spoke about his experiences directing "The Hallow".

 

ENTRIES THIS YEAR WERE ONCE AGAIN VERY STRONG, WITH 6 CATEGORIES:

BEST SHORT FILM


was awarded to George Summers of Truro College, Cornwall for Just Some Morning Tea.

BEST TV EXTRACT


went to Richard Grimshaw of Penistone Grammar School ALC, Sheffield for Intuition.

BEST FILM EXTRACT


went to Rebecca Staniforth of Wales High School, Sheffield for Turning Tables.

SPECIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT


was given to Arianne Lopez Wyld of Weydon School, Surrey for her short film Frensham which won Best 16 or Under Award.

BEST MUSIC VIDEO


But the day belonged to Matthew Sedgley of King Edward VI College, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, who won the BEST MUSIC VIDEO AWARD and OVERALL WJEC MOVING IMAGE PRIZE for THE ELLIPSIS WASTED POTENTIAL ME music video.

 

 

WJEC Head of Creative Media Arts Jeremy Points said "The standard of work submitted this year was exceptionally high. We were delighted to showcase the work of some of the country's most exciting young filmmakers who will no doubt play a significant role in shaping the future of film."
