Leading film experts join prestigious awards as guest speakers

We are delighted to announce the guest speakers who will join us at the 9th Moving Image Awards. The ceremony has gained recognition from teachers and lecturers of film and media courses at institutions across the UK, as well as leading figures in the film industry.

Commenting on the announcement is Jenny Stewart, Film Studies Subject Officer for Eduqas: “It is a privilege to have leading film experts join us at our awards. Their wealth of talent and experience will inspire attendees, and I’m sure they too will be overwhelmed by the standard of talent that will be showcased during the event.”

Our annual event will be held at the British Film Institute in London on Friday, February 24th and joining us will be a stellar line-up of female film experts:

Anna Smith

Anna Smith

Anna Smith is a leading film critic and broadcaster in the UK. The former President of the UK Critics’ Circle, she is the host of the popular podcast Girls On Film, which was listed as the ‘Best Feminist Film Podcast’ by Stylist magazine. A contributor to Deadline Hollywood, Time Out, Metro and The Guardian, Anna appears regularly on Radio 4 and Sky TV and often stands in for Mark Kermode on the BBC News Channel Film Review. Anna has presented at the WJEC Eduqas Moving Image Awards for the last three years.

Faye Ward

Faye Ward

Faye Ward is the Creative Director and Founder of Fable Pictures. Before founding Fable, Faye was also part of the production team of Left Bank Pictures’ multi-award-winning series THE CROWN.

Under the Fable banner, Faye has produced STAN & OLLIE, for which she was BAFTA nominated. The film stars John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan, who were respectively Golden Globe and BAFTA nominated for their performances. 

Faye previously spent many years at Ruby Film & Television, where she worked across the slate, producing the BBC’s Golden Globe nominated TV series DANCING ON THE EDGE.

Kate Leys

Kate Leys

Kate Leys is a script and story editor. She has worked for many years on feature films, short films, and TV series all over the world.  She also works on documentaries, animation, podcasts, and theatre. She works all over the world: in one day last year she worked with filmmakers in Vienna, Beirut, Tblisi and Maputo; and she has worked with indigenous filmmakers, especially those in the Arctic Circle, for several years. Recent completed films include BIRCHANGER GREEN (in post, UK); THE UNBORN BIRO (short, Sundance 2023) and JEVIDA (winner best film Helsinki Film Fest 22). 

She has been head of development at several companies including Film4 in the UK, where she was based for 5 years and where she was part of the small team commissioning and developing some of the UK's most successful feature films including FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL and TRAINSPOTTING. 

Larushka

Larushka Ivan-Zadeh

For over 15 years Larushka Ivan-Zadeh has been Chief Film Critic at Metro, the UK's most highly circulating newspaper. She is also the critic for Times Radio and The Lady Magazine and regularly broadcasts across the BBC. 

Larushka has served on numerous industry juries, most recently for BAFTA and the British Independent Film Awards
