Chief Executive joins expert panel to discuss future qualification system

WJEC’s Chief Executive, Ian Morgan, is set to join a panel of esteemed educationalists at a Policy Forum for Wales event to discuss a new qualification system for 14–16-year-olds.

Commenting on his participation at the flagship conference, Ian Morgan, CEO WJEC, said: “Qualified for the Future offers us an opportunity to review our approach to qualification design and assessment. Through this initiative, Wales can be global leaders, providing enhanced opportunities for learners across Wales to flourish in a global market.

Teaching and learning methodologies continue to evolve, as does the needs of the employers. Qualifications should continue to respond to these changes, by providing learners with opportunities to harness and showcase the skills and knowledge that allow them to progress in their careers.

Conferences such as these, allow us to discuss and challenge our own thinking, whilst remaining focused on providing learners with opportunities for growth.”

Ian will be joined by Neil Butler, National Officer for Wales, NASUWT and Hywel Parry, Headteacher, Ysgol John Bright on this panel discussion, where they will explore qualification design, choice, content and grading systems. There will also be opportunities for questions and comments from the floor.

Conference content

The online conference will be taking place on Monday 5 December, and will explore the new qualifications system in Wales for 14-16 year olds. It follows publication of Qualifications Wales’ proposals for the reformed GCSEs, and as the regulator consults on their design and content.

The event will feature keynote sessions from Emyr George, Director of Qualifications Policy and Reform, Qualifications Wales; and Lucy Crehan, International Education Consultant.

Delegates will have the opportunity to discuss the future direction for Wales’ qualification system, alongside key policy officials who are due to attend from the Department for the Economy, NI; IPO; Senedd Cymru; and the Welsh Government.
