Roderic GillespieChief Executive
Roderic Gillespie joined WJEC in 2018. As Chief Executive, he provides overall strategic leadership for the company.
Roderic was formerly the Director of Assessment for Cambridge International. His previous roles include; Head of Curriculum for Excellence, Head of National Qualifications and a Qualifications Manager at the Scottish Qualifications Authority. With a decade’s experience in teaching and college management, his professional interests include educational reform, curriculum management, assessment and pedagogy.
Elaine CarlileDirector of Assessment Delivery
Elaine joined WJEC in 2007 as a Subject Officer, she was later appointed Assistant Director before progressing to the role of Director of Assessment Delivery. Elaine oversees question paper design and development, leads on issues relating to awarding and research, works closely with the regulators to ensure comparability of standards and manages the operational aspects of our centre relationships.
Originally from Ireland, Elaine graduated from University College Cork with a degree in Music. She has worked in schools in Wales and Ireland, teaching Music and Performing Arts. Elaine's dedication to the teaching profession was recognised in 2000 when she was awarded Teacher of the Year in the Wales Regional Final.
Abigail WilliamsDirector of Finance
Abigail joined WJEC in 2013 as Assistant Director of Finance. As the Acting Director of Finance, Abigail leads WJEC’s financial management and control, is responsible for setting the annual budget and 5 year Financial Plan, fee levels and oversees business resource planning.
After graduating from Cambridge University, Abigail joined Deloitte where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant with ICAEW, attaining the fourth place in the order of merit for her final examinations. With over 15 years’ experience working in industry, she has held senior accounting roles with RAC plc, Morgan Cole Solicitors and the BBC.
Originally from Swansea, Abigail is a fluent Welsh speaker.
Catherine Roberts-StrawAssistant Director (Strategy)
Catherine Roberts-Straw joined WJEC in 2009. As Assistant Director Strategy she leads WJEC's strategic direction in both England and Wales playing a key role in supporting and developing existing and new markets for qualifications. Catherine is also responsible for the corporate approach to risk management, WJEC's Marketing and Communications strategy and stakeholder engagement in England.
After graduating from the University of Kent, Catherine joined Barclays bank on their graduate training programme. Her most recent roles at Barclays included Assistant Director of Strategy and Planning, subsequently progressing to Relationship and Channel Director at Barclaycard, followed by four years as Sales Director at First Plus where she was a finalist in the Welsh Woman of the Year Management achievement category. Catherine has an MBA from London Business School and is also a graduate from the University of Grenoble, France. Originally from the Swansea valley, Catherine is a fluent Welsh speaker and also speaks other languages including French and German.
Ian EdwardsOperations Director
Ian Edwards joined WJEC in 2008 as Operations Manager. He is responsible for managing the print production and logistics of question papers and other printed resources at WJEC's site at Trefforest. His role also incorporates the administration of the post results service processes.
In 2013, Ian assumed the role of Operations Director taking on the responsibility for the facilities and buildings management for both of WJEC's sites as well as corporate responsibility for EHS.
Ian's background is in manufacturing processes, Continuous Improvement and Quality. He has 20 years production and manufacturing experience in the fields of aerospace, electronics and metal production.
Beverley GreenHuman Resources Manager
As Human Resources Manager, Beverley supports the Chief Executive and Strategic Management Team in relation to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the human resources strategy and associated policies.
Beverly graduated from Cardiff University and is a CIPD Chartered Member.
Previous roles have included Human Resources Officer at the North East Wales Training and Enterprise Council and Human Resources Manager at Cardiff University Students Union.
Ian MorganIT Director
As IT Director Ian is the strategic lead for the effective application of Information Technology for WJEC, including all internal and external facing systems that support the examination cycle. He also represents WJEC in a range of external settings.
Ian was initially appointed as Deputy Director for the National Grid for Learning project when he joined WJEC in 2002, before becoming Assistant Director for IT Service Management and Collaboration.
Prior to joining WJEC, Ian was Education IT Manager for a local authority, where he was responsible for the strategic development and implementation of technology that supported both administration and more importantly, teaching and learning.
Siân LlewelynHead of Welsh Language Service
Siân joined WJEC in 2006 as Subject Officer for Welsh Second Language, she was later appointed Head of the Welsh Language Service. Siân oversees the leadership and management of the Language Service, the Translation Team, the Print resource Editing Team, the Welsh Language and Welsh Language Question Papers Editing Team.
Siân graduated from Bangor University College with a degree in Welsh and received a MA degree in Children's Literature. She taught Welsh in secondary schools in South East Wales before joining WJEC. Siân is originally from Bontnewydd near Caernarfon.
